Goed Om Te Weten

GOOD TO KNOW

A medical diving check is for your personal safety

To dive with us you do not need any. You guarantee your health with your signature on the registration form. We recommend active divers to do an annual diving check with a dive doctor. For all courses, you will be required to complete a medical questionnaire, and if a question is answered with yes, a medical proof must be available for this case and presented to us.

You are on a cruise ship and you want to dive with us?
No problem, on your pre-booking we will pick you up with the car at the pier and after a great diving day with 2 dives, we will take you back to the cruise ship at the latest by 5 pm.

Also for snorkelers a great all around trip in Curacao!

Vaccination

You do not need specific vaccinations for Curacao. Whoever was less than seven days before arrival in a country with an increased risk of yellow fever, needs vaccination. Ask your doctor.

Mosquitoes

Unfortunately, there are also mosquitoes on Curacao. The government is opposed to spraying with insecticides, as it is believed that the important, useful insects are killed as well, and the mosquitoes become resistant to the poison gas over time.
The best protection is to wear long clothing, which always close living and sleeping rooms, mosquitoes spray with DEET (content of about 30% effect for around 6 hours, the height in% says only how long the protection holds and not how good it is!), also lemon eucalyptus oil, Icaridin and IR3535 abbots mosquitoes.
For the application of the respective product please read the package insert or ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Money

On Curacao is paid with the Antilles Gulden (Florin). US dollars are also not a problem, since the guilder is linked to the dollar market and therefore does not show any major fluctuations. But who pays with dollar often gets back guilders.
(1 US $ = +/- 1.78 Naf)
At the ATMs you can get Dutch Antilles Florin (NAF) or US Doller.
Curacao does not belong to the EU, you can pay here almost nowhere with Euro. Per person and day you can exchange 500 euros on the bank, please do not forget the passport.

Hospitals and decompression chamber

Curacao has a good health system. There is a pressure chamber in the Saint Elisabeth Hospital. See emergency numbers and addresses.

Car rental

Without rental car you will be stuck on Curacao.
There are public buses, but driving with them is tortuous because there is no timetable.
Taxis are expensive on Curacao. A taxi ride is as expensive as a day rental car. With a rental car you are free and you can arrange your own day planning. Whether you are on the beach for a bit longer, or you drive for a short shopping or to the diving school, you decide where and when to go. To rent a car you need a valid driving license (no international driving license is required). Here is right traffic. Since each car rental has its own rules, we ask you to discuss the arrangements directly with the car rental.

Safety

Curacao may be classified as safe. Nevertheless, you must pay attention to your valuables. Do not take any valuable items at beaches and beware of thieves in the city center, especially when cruise ships are docked, the tricky thieves are in the city. Do not take anything from strangers and let your mind and belly feeling decide what is safe and what is not.

Power supply

The standard mains voltage is 110-130 volts at 50Hz and most sockets have the two-pin Type A plug, which is used in the USA. Therefore, it is useful to bring your own adapter. If you do not have one, you can easily buy it on the island. In some places there is also 220 volts with a type C plug, you have to clarify directly there, since there are no rules on the island. For Swiss, a travel adapter is a good recommendation, since usually a connector type J is "Swiss" device.
